 *****Geroy Simon is currently playing in his eleventh season in the CFL, his ninth with the BC Lions.  The Lions are 3-5 on the season and Geroy has 27 receptions for 395 yards and 3 touchdowns.  BC hosts Montreal Friday night.

*****LaRod Stephens-Howling was drafted in the seventh round by the Arizona Cardinals and he has been making an impact thus far in training camp and the exhibition season.  Arizona has played in three preseason games to this point, first they lost 20-10 to the Pittsburgh Steelers.  In that contest, he had six carries for 24 yards and 1 reception for a loss of three.  He also made a special teams tackle.  In a 17-6 loss to San Diego, LaRod carried six times for six yards and had 1 reception for two yards.  In that contest, he made his mark more on special teams, returning two kickoffs for 152 yards.  Finally in a 44-37 loss to Green Bay, he had three carries for 17 yards, 1 reception for 8 yards and made a special teams tackle.  The Cardinals' final preseason game is Thursday at Denver.

*****Antwuan Reed is entering his sophomore year at Pitt.  Last year he got valuable playing time experience in nine games.  This year he is battling for a job as a CB and may get a lot of time in nickel packages as well as special teams.  Pitt opens up Saturday at home against Youngstown State.

*****Josh Miller is entering his senior season at IUP.  The Crimson Hawks are 1-0 after defeating Southern Connecticut 28-21 last weekend.  Josh got into the game according to the participation report, however, he didn't record any stats.  IUP hosts C.W. Post this Saturday.

*****Andre Morrison is entering his junior year at Lock Haven.  They are 0-1 after losing 43-0 to West Chester in their opener last weekend.  Morrison started at CB in the loss and made five tackles.  The Bald Eagles will play next at Shippensburg on 9/12.

*****Ben Landis and Demetrius Young are entering their junior and sophomore years respectively at Fairmont State.  The Fighting Falcons lost their opener to Clarion 33-21.  Landis didn't get in the game while Young did but recorded no stats.  The Falcons are at Lake Erie this Saturday. 

*****Forrest Harvey is entering his junior year at Westminster.  They open their season at home this Saturday against Heidelberg. 

*****Mike Kush will be playing at Cal U this year after spending the last two seasons at Mesa Junior College in Arizona.  The Vulcans lost their first game of the year last week against Saginaw State 23-17.  Kush did not participate in the contest.  Cal U will host Bloomsburg this Saturday.

*****Last but not least we have our incoming freshmen on the next level:  James Haggery is at St. Vincent.  The Bearcats open with McDaniel College this Saturday.  Quadir Christian and Jon Maurizio are at Juniata College.  They open at Allegheny this Saturday.  William Claar is at Bethany College.  The Bison open with Otterbein this Saturday. 


Next, let's move on and look at the sub-varsity program:

*****JV:  Chuck Wyatt, Adam Dugan, Dave Shannon, Brad Janidlo and Kerry Pfeil will all assist with the JV program for the 2009 season.  The squad opens up with a home contest against Cambria Heights on 9/14.

*****Junior High:  Once again, Brian Subich is the head coach of the freshmen team.  They are coming off an impressive performance in their recent tri-scrimmage with Altoona and Bedford.  They open at Cambria Heights on 9/10.

*****Eighth Grade:  Donny Robertson is the head coach of the eighth grade squad.  Their first game is on 9/9 at home against Cambria Heights.

*****Seventh Grade:  Adam Campagna's squad also opens on 9/9 against Cambria Heights but they are on the road.

   *****Geroy Simon:  the BC Lions lost to Montreal 28-24 and fall to 4-6 on the season.  Simon had 7 catches for 128 yards and one touchdown in the win.  This pushes his season totals to 38 catches for 563 yards and 4 TDs.  The Lions host Toronto this Saturday.

*****LaRod Stephens-Howling:  the Arizona Cardinals lost their season-opener to the San Francisco 49ers 20-16.  Stephens-Howling had 3 kickoff returns for 62 yards and made one special teams tackles.  The Cards are at Jacksonville this Saturday. 

*****Antwuan Reed:  Pitt defeated Buffalo 54-27 and in that effort, Antwuan Reed had one tackle.  The Panthers, now 2-0, host Navy this Saturday night.

*****Josh Miller:  IUP improved to 3-0 after defeating Millersville 17-3.  Miller played in the contest but did not register any stats.  The Crimson Hawks are at Mercyhurst this Saturday.

*****Andre Morrison:  Lock Haven lost to Shippensburg 49-7.  Morrison started at CB and made three tackles in the contest.  Shippensburg is at Clarion this Saturday.

*****Ben Landis and Demetrius Young:  Fairmont State lost to Sheperd 27-14.  Young played but had no stats while Landis did not play.  The Falcons are at home against Glenville State this weekend.

*****Forrest Harvey:  Westminster lost to Allegheny 27-14.  Harvey did not participate.  They are at St. Vincent on Saturday.

*****Mike Kush:  Cal U beat West Chester 30-23.  Kush did not play.  The Vulcans host Gannon this weekend.

*****James Haggerty:  St. Vincent lost 32-17 to Geneva.  Haggerty did not get into the game.  The Bearcats host Westminster this Saturday.

*****Quadir Christian and Jon Maurizio:  Juniata lost 43-13 to Susquehanna.  Christian carried the ball four times for nine yards, returned two kickoffs for 73 yards and one punt for four yards.  Maurizio didn't play.  Juniata is at home this weekend against Ursinus. 

*****William Claar:  Bethany beat Kentucky Christian 41-33.  Claar did not play.  The Bison host Grove City this Saturday.


*****David Istanich:  one former Trojan I have neglected in the previous two Bullet Points columns was Big Dave, who is in his freshmen season at Florida International.  FIU is 0-1 after losing their opener to Alabama 40-14.  Istanich did not play.  The Golden Panthers are at Rutgers this Saturday. 


Now, to the sub-varsity scene:

*****JV:  No score reported on the contest with Cambria Heights.  Next Monday they are at Westmont.

*****Junior High:  the Freshmen lost 33-6 to Cambria Heights.  They host Westmont Thursday.

*****Eighth Grade:  lost 22-20 to Cambria Heights.  They play today at Westmont. 

*****Seventh Grade:  The Trojans won this contest 12-6.  They host Westmont today.

 *****Geroy Simon:  Simon had five catches for 46 yards in the BC Lions' 23-17 victory over Toronto.  On the season, he has 43 receptions for 609 yards and 4 touchdowns.  The Lions play Calgary this week.

*****LaRod Stephens-Howling:  LaRod had one carry for 2 yards, 2 receptions for 14 yards, 2 kickoff returns for 51 yards and 2 tackles in the Cards' 31-17 win over Jacksonville.  The Cards host Indianapolis on Monday night.

*****Antwuan Reed:  Reed fumbled his one kickoff return and although he recovered it, he lost 8 yards.  He made two tackles also in the Panthers' 27-14 win over Navy.  Pitt is at North Carolina State this Saturday.

*****Josh Miller:  Miller participated in IUP's 20-16 loss to Mercyhurst but recorded no stats.  The Crimson Hawks are at Slippery Rock Saturday.

*****Andre Morrison:  Morrison played but recorded no stats in Lock Haven's 24-0 loss to Clarion.  This week LHU hosts Mercyhurst.

*****Ben Landis and Demetrius Young:  Landis did not play but Young did, however, he recorded no stats in the Fighting Falcons' 50-37 win over Glenville St.  They are at West Liberty this weekend.  

*****Forrest Harvey:  Harvey did not play in Westminster's 27-14 win over St. Vincent.  This week they host Thomas More.

*****Mike Kush:  Kush saw action in the Vulcans' 52-10 win over Gannon.  This week, Cal U hosts Clarion.

*****James Haggerty:  Haggerty did not play in SVC's 27-14 loss to Westminster.  This week they are at Waynesburg.

*****Quadir Christian and Jon Maurizio:  Maurizio did not play but Quadir had 8 carries for 9 yards, 1 punt return for 4 yards, 2 kickoff returns for 42 yards and made 1 tackle in Juniata's 31-0 loss to Ursinus.  This week they host Franklin and Marshall.

*****William Claar:  Claar did not play in Bethany's 35-14 loss to Grove City.  They are idle this week.

*****David Istanich:  Big Dave saw action in FIU's 23-15 loss to Rutgers.  The Golden Panthers host Toledo this Saturday.


Now, for our quick look at the sub-varsity program:

*****JV:  beat Westmont 20-6.  I don't know their record because the first week's score was never reported.  If you have it, please email me.

*****Junior High:  lost 18-6 to Westmont and drop to 0-2 on the season.  They play at Richland Thursday night.

*****Eighth Grade:  tied Westmont 16-16 and are now 0-1-1 on the season.  They host Richland Wednesday.

*****Seventh Grade:  beat Westmont 12-6 and improve to 2-0 on the season.  They are at Richland Wednesday.

 *****Geroy Simon:  Simon had three catches for 39 yards in the BC Lions' 27-18 loss to Calgary.  On the season, he has 46 receptions for 648 yards and 4 touchdowns.  The Lions host Saskatchewan Friday night.

*****LaRod Stephens-Howling:  LaRod caught one pass for eight yards, made on tackle and returned four kickoffs for 78 yards in the Cards' 31-10 loss to the Colts.  The Cards are on their bye week this coming week.

*****Antwuan Reed:  Reed had one tackle in the Panthers 38-31 loss to NC State.  He made two tackles also in the Panthers' 27-14 win over Navy.  Pitt is at Louisville this Friday night.

*****Josh Miller:  IUP defeated Slippery Rock 7-3.  Josh Miller played in the game but recorded no stats.  The Crimson Hawks host Cal U Saturday.

*****Andre Morrison:  Morrison had four tackles and a forced fumble in LHU's 19-7 loss to Mercyhurst.  This week LHU is at Edinboro.

*****Ben Landis and Demetrius Young:  Neither Landis nor Young participated in the Fighting Falcons' 35-10 loss to West Liberty.  They host Charleston this weekend.  

*****Forrest Harvey:  Harvey did not play in Westminster's 34-16 loss to Thomas More.  This week they are at Thiel.

*****Mike Kush:  Kush did not play in the Vulcans' 35-31 win over Clarion.  This week, Cal U is at IUP.

*****James Haggerty:  Haggerty did not play in SVC's 33-12 loss to Waynesburg.  This week they are at Grove City.

*****Quadir Christian and Jon Maurizio:  Maurizio did not play but Quadir had 5 carries for -5 yards, 2 receptions for 24 yards, 1 punt return for 12 yards, and 2 kickoff returns for 26 yards in Juniata's  34-7 loss to Franklin and Marshall.  This week they are at McDaniel.

*****William Claar:  Bethany was idle this past week.  This week the Bison are at Thomas More.

*****David Istanich:  Dave was listed as the starting right tackle in FIU's 41-31 loss to Toledo.  The Golden Panthers are at Louisiana-Monroe this Saturday.

*****JV:  defeated Richland 30-0.  Also, the JVs beat Cambria Heights 52-0 in their first game of the season so their record is 3-0.  (A very special thank you goes out to Brenda King for providing me with these missing scores)

*****Junior High:  lost 34-8 to Richland and drop to 0-3 on the season.  They play at Somerset Thursday night.

*****Eighth Grade:  lost 40-0 to Richland and are now 0-2-1 on the season.  They host Somerset Wednesday.

*****Seventh Grade:  beat Richland 6-0 and improve to 3-0 on the season.  They are at Somerset Wednesday.

*****Antwuan Reed:  Reed had two tackle in the Panthers 35-10 over Louisville.  Pitt hosts UConn this Saturday.

*****David Istanich:  Dave was the starting right tackle for the second week in a row in FIU's 48-35 loss to ULM.  The Golden Panthers are at Western Kentucky this Saturday.


Now, for our quick look at the sub-varsity program:

*****JV:  defeated Somerset 36-0.  They improve to 4-0 and are the only team in the program with an undefeated record.  They are scheduled to play at Bishop Carroll Monday.

*****Junior High:  lost 33-0 to Somerset.  They are scheduled to host Bishop Carroll on Thursday.

*****Eighth Grade:  lost 32-0 to Somerset.  They are scheduled at Bishop Carroll on Wednesday.

*****Seventh Grade:  lost 20-8 to Somerset for their first loss of the season.  They are scheduled to host Bishop Carroll on Wednesday.



NOTE:  I write "scheduled" with this week's sub-varsity games with the Bishop Carroll program because I am unsure if these games will take place due to lack in numbers.  I already know for a fact that the junior high game has been canceled and will be a forfeit win for JHS.

 *****Geroy Simon:  Simon had nine catches for 170 yards and 2 TDs in the BC Lions' 34-31 win over Edmonton.  It was Geroy's most productive game of the season.  On the year, he has 61 receptions for 952 yards and 6 touchdowns.  The Lions play Simon's former squad Winnipeg this week.

*****LaRod Stephens-Howling:  The Cards beat the Texans 28-21.  LaRod had three kick returns and averaged 20 yards with 24 as his long.  Arizona is at Seattle this Sunday.

*****Antwuan Reed:  Reed had a tackle in the Panthers24-21 win over UConn .  Pitt is at Rutgers Friday night.

*****Josh Miller:  IUP lost to Edinboro 38-24.  Josh Miller did not play.  The Crimson Hawks are at Lock Haven Saturday.

*****Andre Morrison:  Morrison played but recorded no stats in LHU's 48-14 loss to Cal U.  This week LHU hosts IUP.

*****Ben Landis and Demetrius Young:  the Fighting Falcons lost 38-7 to UNC-Pembroke this past weekend.  Landis did not play and Young got in the game but recorded no stats.  Fairmont State is at WV Wesleyan this weekend. 

*****Mike Kush:  Kush saw action in the Vulcans' 48-14 win over Lock Haven.  This week, Cal U hosts Edinboro.

*****James Haggerty:  Haggerty saw action in SVC's 40-13 loss to Thomas More.  This week they host Washington and Jefferson.

*****Quadir Christian and Jon Maurizio:  Maurizio did not play but Quadir had 1 carries for 1 yard, 1 reception for 7 yards, and 2 punt returns for 2 yards and 2 kick returns for 29 yards in Juniata's 14-0 loss to Muhlenburg.  This week they are at Gettysburg.

*****William Claar:  Claar did not play in Bethany's 42-21 win over Thiel.  The Bison host Westminster Saturday.

*****David Istanich:  Dave was the starting right tackle for the third week in a row in FIU's 37-20 win over Western Kentucky.  The Golden Panthers host Troy this Saturday.

*****Junior High:  game with Bishop Carroll canceled.  They are at Bishop McCort on Thursday.

*****Seventh Grade:  beat Bishop Carroll 20-6.  They are at Bishop McCort on Wednesday.

*****LaRod Stephens-Howling:  The Cards beat the Seahawks 27-3.  LaRod had one catch, one kickoff return and two special teams tackles.  Arizona is at the New York Giants Sunday night.

*****Antwuan Reed:  Reed recovered a fumble and it iced the game as Pitt defeated Rutgers 24-17 Friday night.  Pitt hosts South Florida Saturday at noon.

*****Josh Miller:  IUP beat Lock Haven 45-0.  Josh Miller did not play.  The Crimson Hawks are at Clarion this weekend.

*****Mike Kush:  Kush saw action in the Vulcans' 38-14 win over Edinboro.  This week, Cal U is at Slippery Rock.

*****Quadir Christian and Jon Maurizio:  Maurizio did not play but Quadir returned 3 kickoffs for 44 yards in Juniata's 59-14 loss to Gettysburg.  This week they are at Moravian.

*****William Claar:  Claar did not play in Bethany's 31-28 loss to Westminster.  The Bison are at Waynesburg Saturday.

*****David Istanich:  Dave was in the starting lineup for the fourth week in a row, this time at left guard as FIU 42-33 to Troy.  The Golden Panthers are at Arkansas State this Saturday.

*****Seventh Grade:  lost 44-0 to Bishop Guilfoyle.  They are at Penn Cambria on Wednesday.

 *****Geroy Simon:  Simon had eight catches for 103 yards in the BC Lions' 28-26 loss to Calgary.  On the year, he has 77 receptions for 1,219 yards and 6 touchdowns.  The Lions play Edmonton this weekend.

*****LaRod Stephens-Howling:  The Cards lost 34-21 to Carolina.  LaRod had one catch for 14 yards that went for his first pro touchdown.  He also returned four kickoffs for 126 yards with a long return of 53 yards in the loss.  The Cards are at the Bears this Sunday. 

*****Antwuan Reed:  Reed and the rest of the Panthers were off this past week.  They host Syracuse this Saturday.

*****Josh Miller:  IUP lost 29-3 to Gannon.  Josh Miller did not play.  The Crimson Hawks are at Kutztown Saturday.

*****Andre Morrison:  Morrison played but had no stats in LHU's 47-6 loss to Slippery Rock.  This week LHU is at C.W. Post.

*****Ben Landis and Demetrius Young:  the Fighting Falcons lost 15-9 to Concord.  Landis did not play and Young one catch for five yards.  Fairmont State is at WV State this weekend. 

*****Mike Kush:  Kush did not play in the Vulcans' 28-7 win over Mercyhurst.  This week, Cal U is at Shippensburg.

*****James Haggerty:  Haggerty did not see action in SVC's 38-14 loss to Thiel.  The Bearcats are idle this week.

*****Quadir Christian and Jon Maurizio:  Maurizio did not play but Quadir rushed 11 times for 38 yards, returned 2 punts for 10 yards and 1 kickoff for 13 yards in Juniata's 58-7 loss to Johns Hopkins.  This week they are at Dickinson.

*****William Claar:  Claar did not play in Bethany's 54-21 loss to Geneva.  The Bison host Washington and Jefferson.

*****David Istanich:  Dave started at right tackle (sixth start of the season) in FIU's 20-17 overtime win over Louisiana-Lafayette.  The Golden Panthers are at Middle Tennessee Saturday.

*****Quadir Christian and Jon Maurizio:  Maurizio did not play but Quadir rushed 11 times for 38 yards, had two receptions for 16 yards, 1 punt return for 1 yard and 6 kickoff returns for 112 yards in Juniata's 42-14 loss to Dickinson.  Their season is complete.

*****William Claar:  Claar did not play in Bethany's 49-0 loss to Washington and Jefferson.  The Bison wrap up their season at St. Vincent this Saturday.

*****David Istanich:  Dave did not play in FIU's 48-21 loss to Middle Tennessee.  The Golden Panthers host North Texas Saturday.
